Roughnecks Community Relations & Outreach

Houston Roughnecks – Community Relations & Outreach Strategy
Position: Director of Marketing
Location: Houston, TX
Duration: UFL 2025 Season
As part of the Houston Roughnecks' effort to expand their brand awareness in the market, I led the development and execution of the team’s community relations strategy to reintroduce the franchise to Houston in a meaningful and authentic way.
The initiative centered around creating high-impact, high-visibility touchpoints across the city with a focus on youth engagement, grassroots partnerships, and civic pride. Key programs included:
“Roughnecks Reach” Community Initiative – A branded platform for all outreach efforts, including youth football camps, school visits, local nonprofit partnerships, and gameday recognition programs for community leaders and service organizations.
Youth Football Engagement – Organized and promoted youth camps and clinics hosted at TDECU Stadium, offering local athletes hands-on skill development and interaction with Roughnecks players and coaches.
Partnership Development – Built collaborative relationships with local nonprofits, military organizations, and civic groups including the Mighty Oaks Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston, and area high school athletic departments.
In-Market Activation – Led planning for local appearances, watch parties, volunteer days, and giveaways that integrated the team into Houston neighborhoods, reinforcing the Roughnecks’ identity as Houston’s team.
Gameday Recognition Programs – Designed and implemented community spotlight moments during home games to honor local heroes, veterans, and youth organizations on the field, helping foster deeper emotional ties between fans and the team.
This comprehensive approach not only strengthened the Roughnecks’ brand at a grassroots level but also positioned the team as a visible and engaged contributor to the Houston community from day one.
